A good boxwood netsuke of a snail. Around 1800
Emerging from its shell and placing its wide body over it, the extended antennae spread out on top of the shell and the slimy flesh part of the body twisted to form the himotōshi. Signed Sari. Tiny reddish brown lacquer dots to the the eyes.

Aus ihrem Schneckenhaus herausgekrochen, liegt der Kopf mit ausgebreiteten Fühlern auf dem Gehäuse. Der schleimige und gewundene hintere Teil des Körpers bildet das himotōshi. Augen durch Lacktupfer wiedergegeben.
