1888 $2 1/2 MS66 PCGS. Jewel-like surfaces coruscate with frosted mint luster to earn the rarely encountered Premium Gem designation, an honor bestowed on just half a dozen 1888 quarter eagles by PCGS. Only one or two tiny marks and grazes disturb the vibrant, blond-gold fields and devices. The dies clashed, but not to the detriment of a sharp strike, which shows only slight incompleteness at the central shield stripes and the eagle's exposed leg. Population: 6 in 66 (2 in 66+), 0 finer (7/17).
