A RARE PAIR OF LOUIS XV ORMOLU WALL BRACKETS CIRCA 1745-49 Of ornate bearded mask form, within elaborate pierced scrolling surrounds, bowed shelf with leaf border above, both with 'C' couronné poinçon markeach 22cm wide, 28cm high, tops 12cm deepFor a near identical pair please see Sotheby's, London, Important French Furniture and Clocks, 15th June 1990, Lot 37 (£16,500). The 'C' couronné poinçon was a tax mark employed on any alloy containing copper between March 1745 and February 1749. Condition Report: Overall there is a fine patina of fine scratches and rubbing with some spotting and minor knocks commensurate with age and use.The flat shelf sections are later fixed with round topped metal screws that have given some rust to this area. There is a possibility that the flat top inset shelf section could be later and there are two holes to the back edge of these sections.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition.
