The history of the name Royal Oak begins in the 17th century, when Charles II took refuge in a tree, a "Royal Oak", after his defeat by Cromwell. The name Royal Oak was used as a good-luck charm to designate Royal Navy ships of the early 20th century, such as HMS Royal Oak. It was from the cuirassier's hull that Gérald Genta, a true precursor of modern watchmaking design, drew inspiration for this watch's distinctive bracelet.
