BAKTRIA, Indo-Greek Kingdom. Menander I, circa 165/55-130 BC. AE (Bronze, 21x20 mm, 9.72 g, 6 h), uncertain mint in Paropamisadai or Gandhara. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ΣΩTHPOΣ - MENANΔPOY Draped bust of Athena to right, wearing crested Boiotian helmet. Rev. 'Maharajasa tratarasa Menamdrasa' ('of the Great King Menander the Savior' in Karoshti) Shield emblazoned with aegis and gorgoneion; to left, monogram. Bopearachchi 19B. HGC 12, 204. An unusually attractive example with a very well preserved aegis. Some deposits, otherwise, good very fine.
