Seated Dollars 1855 $1 Fine 15 NGC. OC-1, High R.3

Seated Dollars
1855 $1 Fine 15 NGC. OC-1, High R.3. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. Both proofs and circulation strikes were produced from the same die pair, although this Choice Fine example is most likely a circulation strike. A later die state shows a die crack through the E in ONE, but that crack is missing on this early die state coin. The reverse is rotated approximately 10° counterclockwise. All 1855 examples are rare in circulation strike format, about equal to the key 1854 date in that regard. This remarkable warm-gray survivor is smoothly worn, with all the design elements fully outlined and ideal rims and dentils for the grade. NGC has seen this sole coin at the Fine 15 level and PCGS reports another. NGC Census: 1 in 15, 54 finer (8/23).
