HRH The Princess Elizabeth (later HM Queen Elizabeth II), a fine and rare late 1940s silk evening dress with pink floral pattern, worn by The Princess and subsequently given by The Princess to Miss Kathleen Ward, who worked at Clarence House as a telephonist for seven years, firstly for Princess Elizabeth and then for The Queen Mother. The story of how Kathleen was given the dress is documented in a Woman's Own article published June 17th 1961, entitled 'How I came to wear The Queen's gown', which has photographs of The Princess wearing the dress and a photograph of Kathleen wearing it. Sold with a copy of the article, her letters of engagement to The Royal Household, a Job Reference and other Royal ephemera including letters signed by Group Captain Peter Townsend.
