A Charles II silver porringer and cover, of conventional form, with twin 'S' scroll handles, the thumbpiece formed as a cherub mask, the lower section of the body chased with acanthus leaves, the slightly domed cover surmounted by a cast acanthus finial to an acanthus ground, with engraved crest, assay marks rubbed, London circa 1676, maker's mark rubbed, 17cm high, 19.5ozt. The cover has a later cut out section to one side and the chased acanthus portion of the cover has several holes and splits. The engraved crest is worn. However, the cast finial is still in super condition. The base looks as though it has been patched in two places and has a split which has been soldered together. The engraved crest is rubbed as are the hallmarks. The side handles are worn, and much of the original detail is rubbed.
