Italy Vittorio Emanuele III 5 Lire 1914-R MS63 NGC, Rome

Italy
Vittorio Emanuele III 5 Lire 1914-R MS63 NGC, Rome mint, KM56, Dav-144, Mont-114 (R2). An iconic Crown designed in the wake of international peace after WWI, this type was initially intended as a project for then chief engraver of the Rome mint, Luigi Giorgi, eventually passing into the hands of designer Davide Calandra and engraver Attilio Motti after Giorgi's sudden death in 1912. The reverse representation of Italy standing behind an ornate quadriga is among the most celebrated designs from Vittorio Emanuele III's coinage, exuding quintessential neoclassical style and symbolism. This particular representative sits at the last decently populated grade on the NGC census, the Choice preservation invigorated by cherry, champagne, and cerulean tones that weave throughout the flan. An easy consideration for the aesthetically-conscious collector.
