THAILAND. France - Thailand. Siam Ambassadors Received Bronze Medal, 1861. Paris Mint. Napoleon III. NGC MS-66 Brown.
Divo-438. Diameter: 73mm. Obverse: Laureate bust of Napoleon III right; Reverse: Scene depicting ambassadors of Rama IV approaching King Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie while kneeling in Fontainebleau Palace. A stunningly preserved example of this massive French medal with a RARE depiction -- foreign affairs with an Asian nation. The single finest graded of this type, there are virtually no forms of handling over the surfaces and the chocolate-brown coloration is mostly smooth, with attractive gleam appearing in the fields. Accompanied by a contemporary circular box with green interior line that we can only assume is original to the medal considering its unusual size. A true showpiece, this medal belongs in an advance Thai-focused collection.
