A luxury Scythian axe from the northern Black Sea region, 6th – 5th century B.C. Slightly curved bronze axe with almost straight cutting edge. The broad sides wavily ribbed towards the shaft hole. The rear shaft with the stylized head of an eagle. Excellent condition. Beautiful dark green patina. Lenght 19.5 cm.
Provenance: From a private collection in southern Germany. Acquired on the art market and from German private collections in the 1970s and 1980s.
