George Romney (1734-1802) Study for Fortune Telling (recto); River landscape with figures on the bank (verso) Pencil (recto); pencil, black chalk and grey wash (verso), with watermark of fleur-de-lys surmounted by a crown 35.5 x 36.9cm; 14 x 14½in This is one of a number of drawings known for Romney's Fortune Telling . However, there is only a fragment of the unfinished oil extant, depicting Emma Hamilton, now in the Tate, London (no.N00312) (see A. Kidson, George Romney: A Complete Catalogue of his Paintings (New Haven and London, 2015), p.680, no.1491).
