A silver, gold and black enamelled cigarette case Cartier, circa 1926, stamped with the 'double C' mark in an oval, inside cover with French mixed gold and mixed silver mark, inventory number has been overstruck, indistinct lozenge mark to internal cigarette clip, in original fitted case, gilt tooled Cartier inside cover and on base Rectangular form with banded decoration, each side with black enamel bands flanking six gold bands interspersed with silver reeded bands, with push action thumb-piece inset with five shaped black stones, the gilt interior with engraved presentation inscription 'To CARTER in remembrance of MERVEL to BRUSSELS, GERMANY, PARIS and PICCADILLY', initials 'F.C.' and dated 'Christmas 1926' contained in original fitted box, length 13cm , weight 228gms . Footnotes: Provenance by family descent. The vendors great grandfather Frederick James Carter was a chauffeur.
