A BOW-SHAPED LOPBURI AGATE PENDANT, c. 13TH CENTURY
Thailand, Lopburi period, c. 13th century. Bow-shaped, carved from semi-translucent agate, brilliantly polished, of a beautiful black color with milky white and pale grey bands. Pierced for suspension as a pendant, showing ancient toolmarks.
Condition:
Good condition commensurate with age, wear, signs of weathering, and a few small chips to the ends.
Provenance:
The collection of The Zelnik Istvan Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. Istvan Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe.
